Hello! I am Nilsas, Senior DevOps Engineer here at Centric IT Solutions Lithuania. Interested in DevOps position? Let me tell you more about it!

A picture
  • What kind of projects are you working on?

I am working on Project Nebula – a cloud automation project for serving production ready application environments quickly and consistently.

  • What do you like the best about this job?

I like the complete freedom and trust that I got placed in me as an engineer, I can develop best solutions using newest technologies newer falling behind industry standards.

  • What is your team like?

Even though on industry level our team is quite small, I consider the whole cloud services division as my team because we live in DevOps culture we all share what we encountered and what we have learned.

Our team is well crafted mix of senior, mid-level and junior members which allows gradual growth of our skills. I think all of us get along really well and that’s because we share our mutual love for technology and a strong sense of going forward and delivering the best quality work.

  • What are the best activities during the day?

The best activities? Probably foosball - I like the most. But on a work related note best activity I think is our DevOps scrum is the best to which everyone is welcome even to just listen in to know what we encountered and maybe didn’t know how to solve, this is the time that all of us can jump in and propose a possible solution or a way to think about the issue at hand. Everyone is welcome to share what new they’ve learned and what can we do to make ourselves and our projects just a bit better every day.

  • How do you keep up in your field – what is the latest thing that you’ve learned and how/were did you learn it?

We try to keep up with technologies in IT every day we have our DevOps scrums everyday in which we often talk about what we have read, seen or heard. We have our work chats in Microsoft Teams where we share a lot of interesting stuff. While not at work we use Slack to share what we work on outside of work (yes we all are still friends outside work environment and don’t hesitate to talk/help or otherwise have a good time – wake boarding for example) On a company wide we also use Yammer for news flow.

Last thing well currently a thing called Azure Bastion is in preview it’s a new cloud technology to manage SSH and RDP sessions for your IaaS environments this would help us replace jump box’es in a lot of environments, I heard about it in our DevOps scrum in the morning the other day!
